i am a professional photographer, mosaic artist, teacher and community art facilitator based in madison, wi. since 2005, i have facilitated and co-facilitated several mosaic public art pieces in the madison-area. in my project work, i emphasize the importance of community input, both in the design and creation of a piece. the work i have facilitated and co-facilitated is found throughout madison's public spaces. i have collaborated on community mosaic projects through the backyard mosaic women's project, the wisconsin department of transportation, saiki design, the city of madison, bayview international center for arts and education, arts for all wisconsin (the state organization on arts and disability), joining forces for families’ gardening for empowerment program, several public schools in the madison-area, neighborhood centers and community gardens.
as a teacher, i like to help others employ mosaic and photography skills to expand their creative landscape. because of this approach in teaching, i feel the women of the backyard mosaic women's project can relax and enter a space in which they can explore the materials with an open heart, allowing a piece to reveal itself in the process. as a mosaic artist and photographer, i try to bring knowledge, experience, and an excellent work ethic to every situation.
being a part of this community of women is an honor, and gives me a deep sense of belonging. we all try to be open to new ideas, reflect on our vulnerabilities and our strengths, share our experiences and offer advice to one another during some of life's difficult transitions. it is a safe space and because of that security, all are welcome to explore the avenues of creativity and well-being through individual and community art projects.
