my name is lisa davidson mcguire. i am originally from st. paul, mn and have lived in madison for the last 27 years. i am a lifelong learner and hold a master’s degree in special education from the uw-madison. i am currently writing to complete my doctorate degree through edgewood college for trauma sensitive education. i am a certified recovery coach and a trained facilitator for self-management and recovery training (smart).
what I bring to the backyard mosaic women's project is peer support and lived experience. i was incarcerated at the dane county jail in 2017 due to a substance use disorder, and now support and coach peers in recovery. i bring my time, advocacy and compassion to the project. i hold space for those still struggling.
the gifts i receive from the backyard mosaic women's project are many. i am grateful to have time in my week to weave, create, learn and support. the project provides a greater sense of purpose for me that runs deep. i appreciate the comradery, laughter, struggle and hope i find each week.
